A few years ago, I registered a car for my 10‑year-old son. They say you can't do that now. What should I do?

Replaced the engine. Should I register my car again?

According to the Rules for state registration of vehicles in the registration divisions of the traffic police of the Ministry of internal Affairs of Russia, approved by government decree No. 1764 of December 21, 2019, the state registration of a vehicle is carried out by the owner of the vehicle (with the exception of a person who is under the age of 16 or recognized as incompetent).

Registration of vehicles belonging to individuals who have not reached the age of 16 years is carried out for one of the parents, adoptive parents or guardians. In this case, the vehicle is registered for a limited period of validity-until the minor owner reaches the age of 16.

Since the vehicle was already registered to your son at the time of the entry into force of this rule, you do not have any obligations in this regard. The car is registered to a child - do I need to re-register it now?

  • What to do if the car is banned from registration due to the previous owner, find out here .
  • We recommend checking the expiration date kits and fire extinguisher and the availability of signal vest and emergency stop sign .
